Summary:The present invention relates to a method for treatment of industrial water circuits, in particular in paper production, wherein an alkaline chlorite is added to a water circuit containing a halogen amine as oxidatively acting biocide or biocide system. The invention further relates to an agent for treatment of industrial water circuits, comprising as oxidatively acting biocide or biocide system a halogen amine generated from, for example, ammonium bromide and sodium hypochlorite; an alkaline chlorite such as NaCIO2; and the use of alkaline chlorite as an additive for treatment of industrial waste water systems containing a halogen amine as oxidatively acting biocide or biocide system.
