Summary:The present invention provides a method of treating tissue trauma (such as damage from radiation (such as solar and ultraviolet radiation), wounds, bruising, burns, blisters, excoriations, incisions, excisions, and ulcers) in a subject, comprising topically administering to the tissue area of the subject affected by said trauma a composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of at least one alpha adrenergic agonist (such as oxymetazoline hydrochloride). The present invention also provides a method for alleviating the pain or discomfort associated with aesthetic or plastic surgery or cosmetology procedures in a subject comprising administering said alpha adrenergic agonist.
