Summary: | A method of calculating a smooth analytical flight trajectory from a series of position measurements on a real flight path comprises the steps of applying Kalman smoothing to the measurements to provide track vectors (18, 20), and fitting a special continuous polygon (22) first to the track vectors and in further iterative steps to the position measurements. The special continuous polygon allows the generation of a continuous and differentiable analytically-defined flight path. The invention allows a smoothed flight path to be calculated, the path having a lower noise level than that achievable using Kalman smoothing alone. The invention provides an improved flight path for certain safety-relevant calculations and other tasks which require a high level of reliability. |
