Summary:The invention discloses a method for stimulating the metabolism of non-phototrophic microorganisms involved in biological processes, comprising the illumination of said microorganisms with blue light. The invention also discloses the devices enabling such an illumination. More particularly, the illumination with blue light has a wavelength of between 430 nm and 495 nm and an intensity of less than 1000 lumen. This discovery can be of use for improving the efficiencies of biological processes and more particularly for improving the efficiencies of biological wastewater treatment processes.
