In some embodiments, a vision assistive device (100) includes a housing (42) having a base (62) for positioning the housing (42) on a surface (86); one or more imaging units (44) disposed along a top portion of the housing (42), each imaging unit (44) being angled downward so a central axis (147) of the imaging unit (44) forms an acute angle with the surface (86) so the imaging unit (44) captures a target image from a target object (88); and a control system (120) accommodated within the housing (42), the control system (120) being connected to the one or more imaging units (44) to process the target image captured by each imaging unit (44) and to output the target image to a user.
