Summary:The disclosure provides a composition comprising an effective amount of a neuregulin for use in a method to prevent a peripheral nerve injury in a subject at risk of incurring a peripheral nerve injury, or to treat a peripheral nerve injury in a subject having an existing peripheral nerve injury wherein the risk of injury or the injury is due to a surgical procedure. The disclosure further comprises a composition comprising an effective amount of a GGF2 for use in a method to decrease neuropathic pain in a subject having an existing peripheral nerve injury due to a surgical procedure. In particular, the compositions are administered according to a discontinuous dosing regimen.
