The method includes the steps of selecting a generic ophthalmic lens design from a generic ophthalmic lens design database and receiving, over a data-communication network, lens order data associated with at least one individual lens wearer. The method also includes the steps of creating, using the generic ophthalmic lens design and the lens order data, at least one customized ophthalmic lens design being customized for the respective at least one individual lens wearer and updating the generic ophthalmic lens design in the generic ophthalmic lens design database using the at least one customized ophthalmic lens design.
