Summary:A holder capable of protecting an optical connector ferrule from an external shock, or the like and executing a fusion-splice of a short optical fiber not to take out the optical connector ferrule from the holder is obtained. A holder (51) for holding a connector plug (10) equipped with an optical connector ferrule (7) and for protecting a short optical fiber (5) fitted to the optical connector ferrule and the connector plug, wherein, when the short optical fiber together with the holder is fitted to a fusion splicing apparatus that fusion-splices the short optical fiber and other coated optical fiber, the short optical fiber extended from the plug frame (9) is positioned in a fusion position. The fusion splice apparatus also contains a thermal shrinkage procession portion for shrinking a shrink tube (25) on the fusion splice between the fibres. The fusion spliced fibres are inserted with the plug frame into a heating part (86, 87) of the termal shrinkage procession portion. One heating portion (86) provides more heat on the side of the short fibre stub. The other heating portion provides more heat to the middle part of the shrink tube to prevent air bubble formation inside the tube.
