Ein Verfahren zum Betreiben eines Wanderfeldröhrenmoduls (20) eines Kommunikationssatelliten (10) umfasst die Schritte: Empfangen eines Hochfrequenzsignals (22) von einer Antenne (12) des Satelliten (10); Feststellen, dass das Hochfrequenzsignal (22) verstärkt werden soll; Erhöhen des Kathodenstroms einer Wanderfeldröhre (30) auf einen vorbestimmten Betriebswert, wenn das Hochfrequenzsignal (22) verstärkt werden soll; und Verstärken des Hochfrequenzsignals (22) mit der Wanderfeldröhre (30).
