Summary:A fixing device (10) fixes an unfixed image (T) onto a recording medium (S) by heating the recording medium (S) conveyed to a fixing nip (N). The fixing device (10) includes a rotator (22), a fixing belt (21) rotatable by contacting the rotator (22), and a fixing nip-forming member (25) provided inside a loop of the fixing belt (21) to together form the fixing nip (N) with the rotator (22) via the fixing belt (21). A sliding pad (31) is placed between the fixing nip-forming member (25) and the fixing belt (21) to retain lubricant and render the fixing belt (21) to smoothly slide thereon. The sliding pad (31) includes a first fibrous layer (32) contacting the fixing belt (21) and a second fibrous layer (33) closer to the fixing nip-forming member (25) than the first fibrous layer (32). The second fibrous layer (33) has less fiber density than the first fibrous layer (32).
