Summary: | Chemically derivatized polysaccharide-protein blend comprises partially water-swellable polysaccharides and proteins. The polysaccharides and proteins are respectively modified at least partially, chemically and covalently by (a) at least one non-crosslinking derivatization, and (b) at least one crosslinking derivatization. The polysaccharides and proteins are at least partially, chemically and covalently crosslinked together. The chemically derivatized polysaccharide-protein blend in an aqueous medium forms a hydrogel. An independent claim is also included for the wet-chemical method for producing the chemically derivatized polysaccharide-protein blend comprising (ai) suspending at least one partially water-swellable polysaccharide and at least one protein in the aqueous medium to produce a slurry containing at least partially swollen polysaccharide and protein, (bi) partially, chemically and covalently derivatizating at least a part of polysaccharides and proteins by at least one non-crosslinking derivatization reagent, and (ci) partially, chemically and covalently derivatizating at least a part of polysaccharides and proteins by at least one crosslinking derivatization reagent, where the steps (ai)- (ci) is carried out simultaneously or successively and the crosslinking in the step (ci) is carried out so that the hydrogel is formed from at least one polysaccharide and at least one protein.
