Summary: | Methods of treating used or degraded reverse osmosis membranes post-production are provided. The membranes can be treated online or offline. The reverse osmosis membranes are cleaned and then contacted with a rejection enhancing agent solution that includes polyvinylpyrrolidone or polyvinylalcohol. The reverse osmosis membrane is then contacted with a tannic acid solution to produce a reconditioned reverse osmosis membrane having reduced defects. The treatment can take place at temperatures greater than 34° C. because the polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyvinylalcohol rejection enhancing agents used do not have cloud point limitations. |
