An embodiment of an apparatus (100) for correlating faults in an information carrying network comprising a plurality of interconnected physical network elements (300) comprises a data database (110) comprising a multidimensional image of the information carrying network and a data processor (120) adapted to receive at least one fault event signal and to assign the at least one fault event signal, based on information comprised in the at least one fault event signal, to a container and a hierarchy level (370) comprised in the multidimensional image. It further comprises an evaluator (130) adapted to evaluate the at least one assigned fault event signal by correlating information on the containers and the hierarchy level (370) of the at least one assigned fault event level signal and to provide an evaluation signal indicative of a possible correlation of the at least one assigned fault event signal based on the evaluation.
