Method and Device for Analysing a Communication Network

The invention relates to a method for analysing a communication network, wherein the data transmitted in the communication network between a first and a second instance are organized in flows, wherein the data of a flow are transmitted in at least one packet, wherein each flow and thus the packets of each flow are assigned a flow identification number, wherein the packets of a flow are captured at an interface of the communication network between the first and the second instance, wherein the following steps are comprised: a) determining at least one selection condition for selecting flows the data of which are to be made available for the analysis; b) capturing of data at an interface by way of: b1) checking whether the current packet belongs to a flow that fulfils the at least one selection condition; b2) in case the checking in step b1) is answered in the affirmative: storing the current packet according to a pre-determinable sampling function; b3) repeating the steps b1) and b2) until occurrence of a termination condition; c) making data available at an interface; d) analyzing the data made available. The invention is further related to a corresponding device for performing such method.
