Summary:The method involves defining target vertical speed (Vzo) of an aircraft (AC) with respect to a ground upon initiation phase of flare (4) based on performances and specific characteristics of the aircraft. An optimized ground slope (gamma0) associated with a final approach path (A) is determined based on the speed and outside parameter e.g. runway altitude, where the slope is greater than or equal to an initial ground slope (gammai). The aircraft is guided to track the optimized ground slope and reach the speed upon initiation of flare based on interception of the path by the aircraft. An independent claim is also included for a device for optimizing landing of an aircraft on a runway. Procédé pour optimiser l'atterrissage d'un aéronef sur une piste. Selon l'invention, on définit une vitesse verticale cible (Vzo) par rapport au sol et on détermine, en fonction de ladite vitesse verticale cible (Vzo) et d'au moins un paramètre extérieur, une pente sol optimisée (³ o ), associée à un axe d'approche à suivre (A) lors de l'atterrissage, qui est supérieure ou égale à une pente sol prédéfinie (³ i ).
