Summary: | There is provided a bearing constituent member obtained by subjecting a workpiece, obtained from a steel containing 0.7 to 0.9% by mass of carbon, 0.05 to 0.70% by mass of silicon, 0.05 to 0.7% by mass of manganese, 3.2 to 5.0% by mass of chromium, 0.1 to 1.0% by mass of molybdenum, and 0.05% by mass or more to less than 0.5% by mass of vanadium and the remainder is iron and unavoidable impurities and having a polish-finished surface, wherein the content of carbon in the surface layer ranging from the polish-finished surface to 10 µm is 1.1 to 1.6% by mass, Vickers hardness at the position of a depth of 50 µm from the surface being 800 to 940, the amount of residual austenite at the position of a depth of 10 µm from the surface is 5 to 30% by volume, the content of nitrogen in the surface layer ranging from the surface to 10 µm is 0.1 to 1.0% by mass, particles composed of vanadium nitride having a particle diameter of 0.2 to 2 µm and/or particles composed of vanadium carbonitride having a particle diameter of 0.2 to 2 µm are present in the surface layer ranging from the surface to 10 µm, and the area ratio of the particles composed of vanadium nitride having a particle diameter of 0.2 to 2 µm and/or the particles composed of vanadium carbonitride having a particle diameter of 0.2 to 2 µm in the surface layer ranging from the surface to 10 µm is 1 to 10%. |
