Summary:Retanning leather comprises: (a) treating a tanned leather in aqueous liquor in the presence of hollow micro spheres filled with blowing agent, (b) drying the leather obtained in step (a) after further optional retanning steps and (c1) treating with hot water steam at 80-120[deg] C, preferably at 80-100[deg] C, or (c2) treating with infrared radiation having a wavelength of 0.7-100 mu m, where a finishing step (b1) and/or a milling step (b2) can be carried out, after the drying step (b). Independent claims are included for: (1) the leather obtained by the process; and (2) a mixture containing micro hollow balls filled with blowing agent, preferably a liquid having boiling point of less than 60[deg] C in normal pressure and chrome tanning agent and/or synthetic retanning agent.
