Summary:High pressure container comprising a high pressure chamber surrounding a low pressure chamber leading to an outlet, wherein at least one proton conductive membrane is arranged between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber, wherein each of the at least one proton conductive membranes has a first surface in open communication with the high pressure chamber and a second surface in open communication with the low pressure chamber. The first surface is provided with a first electrode, and the second surface is provided with a second electrode. The first and second electrodes are electroconductively connected via an external electric circuit. The device is an ionic decompression cell and enables the recovery of the inverted compression or liquefaction energy without the use of mechanical decompressors.
