Summary:Preparing a fluorinated compound (I) comprises (a) reacting a bromo-fluoro group containing compound (II) with a fluoride source in the presence of at least a polar, aprotic solvent to obtain a fluoro compound (III); (b) reacting (III) with an alcohol compound (IV) in the presence of a radical initiator to obtain alcohol containing compound (V); and (c) reacting (V) with hydrogen in the presence of at least a transition metal catalyst, at least a base and at least a solvent. Preparation of a fluorinated compound of formula (CF 3-CR(F)-CH 2-C(HR 1>)-C(HR 2>)-OH) (I) comprises (a) reacting a bromo-fluoro group containing compound of formula (C(F) 2(Br)-C(R)(F)(Br)) (II) with a fluoride source in the presence of at least a polar, aprotic solvent to obtain a fluoro compound of formula (CF 3-C(R)(F)(Br)) (III); (b) reacting (III) with an alcohol compound of formula (CH 2=C(R 1>)-CH(R 2>)-OH) (IV) in the presence of a radical initiator to obtain alcohol containing compound of formula (CF 3-C(R)(F)-CH 2-C(Br)(R 1>)-CH(R 2>)-OH) (V); and (c) reacting (V) with hydrogen in the presence of at least a transition metal catalyst, at least a base and at least a solvent. Either R 1>, R 2>H, 1-15C-alkyl (optionally substituted by 1-15C-alkoxy or OH), or optionally substituted 6-14C-aryl, preferably phenyl, biphenyl or benzyl or 6-14C-arylalkyl; or R 1>R 2>5 or 6 membered carbocyclic ring; and R : 1-6C-perfluoroalkyl or halo, preferably F, Cl or Br. Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Perfluoralkyl- oder Perfluoralkoxyalkanolen.
