Summary:Detecting gaseous compounds (I) in a gas using a composition containing a probe molecule, of which the reaction with one or more gaseous compounds causes a variation of one of its physical and chemical properties and that variation is measured by an analyzing technique and measuring the physical and chemical properties (preferably spectral property) of the probe molecule, comprises: contacting the gas with the composition; newly measuring the property; and correlating the variation of the spectral property between prior measuring of the physical and chemical properties of the composition. Detecting gaseous compounds of formulae (BX 3), (HX) or (X 2) (I) in a gas using a composition containing a probe molecule, of which the reaction with one or more gaseous compounds causes a variation of one of its physical and chemical properties and that variation is measured by an analyzing technique and measuring the physical and chemical properties (preferably spectral property) of the probe molecule, comprises: contacting the gas with composition containing probe molecule; newly measuring the property; and correlating the variation of the spectral property between prior measuring of the physical and chemical properties of the composition. X : halo. Independent claims are included for: (1) a process of trapping (I) in a gas, comprising contacting the gas with the composition; (2) a material able to react with (I) in gaseous form comprising a porous matrix made of a matrix of inorganic polymer or organic-inorganic hybrid developed by sol-gel process, where the porous matrix comprises probe molecule; and (3) a sensor for gaseous compounds comprising a material or the composition, where the material or composition is deposited on a substrate adapted to the analyzing technique, comprising blade or glass plate, mica quartz or fluorine.
