Summary:A drum-type washing machine includes a casing (1), a washing tub (2), a drum (3), a motor (4), a vibration detector (6), a frequency component calculator (9), and a controller (7). The drum with an agitating protrusion (12) on its inner peripheral wall is placed in the washing tub for containing a laundry (13). The vibration detector detects vibration acceleration of the washing tub. The frequency component calculator calculates a frequency component in the vibration acceleration detected by the vibration detector. The controller controls a forward-reverse continuous pivot drive mode, and also determines the state of laundry in the drum during washing or rinsing, based on a result received from the frequency component calculator.
