Summary:An oil filter for an IC engine has a replaceable cartridge (2) and with a drainage valve (5, 6) in the bottom of the filter housing to control drainage of trapped oil when the cartridge is changed. The valve element (6) comprises a cylindrical slug with sealing rings (18, 19) towards each end. The old valve element remains in place when the cartridge is removed and is expelled downwards out of the housing by a new valve element clipped under the new cartridge.
