Summary:The method for producing a bumper (1) comprising a cross beam (2), crash boxes (3) for absorbing impact energy and a flange plate (4) for assembling the bumper, for a motor vehicle, comprises clamping the crash box in a first holder and attaching with a front side at the cross beam clamped in a second holder. The first holder with the crash box and the second holder with the cross beam and/or flange plate are moved relative to each other so that the crash boxes are connected with the cross beam and/or flange plate by friction welding. Two crash boxes are mutually spaced apart. The method for producing a bumper (1) comprising a cross beam (2), crash boxes (3) for absorbing impact energy and a flange plate (4) for assembling the bumper, for a motor vehicle, comprises clamping the crash box in a first holder and attaching with a front side at the cross beam clamped in a second holder. The first holder with the crash box and the second holder with the cross beam and/or flange plate are moved relative to each other so that the crash boxes are connected with the cross beam and/or flange plate by friction welding. Two crash boxes mutually spaced apart are positioned over the first holder at the cross beam and are connected with the cross beam via the friction welding. An independent claim is included for bumper for a motor vehicle.
