Summary: | A drive train for a wind turbine (100) is provided. The wind turbine comprises a low speed shaft (210, 310) connected to blades (130) of the wind turbine and a higher speed shaft (270) connected to a generator (275). The drive train also includes a bearing (215, 315) that substantially supports the weight of at least the low speed shaft. A compound planetary gear stage is connected to the low speed shaft and the higher speed shaft, and includes a rotating carrier (240, 340), a non-rotating ring gear (225), a plurality of planetary gears (260), and a rotating sun gear (265). The sun gear is connected to the higher speed shaft. |
