Summary:A wire electrode (8) introduced into a narrow indentation (1) on a metallic member (2) is bent by a guide (7) towards an inner wall (3,4) of the indentation. Voltage is applied to the metallic member and wire electrode to generate an arc that melts the wire electrode locally such that the melted wire electrode material is deposited on the inner wall. The wire electrode is continuously introduced during deposition to produce a metal matrix layer (9) having a width, S, that is smaller than the width, b, of the indentation.
