Summary:A cordless electrical appliance (1) has a cordless power connector (4, 5), of which at least one of the terminals carries a signal to or from an electronic circuit (8) for control of the appliance. The cordless connector may be operable in any orientation throughout the 360 degrees. A sensor (7) may generate a signal representative of a state of the appliance, such as the electrical load. A control (8) in the base (2) of the appliance may control the provision of electrical power to the appliance in response to the signal. The appliance may be a kettle or other heating or cooking device, or an iron or hair tongs.
