Summary: | Weather-resistant pearlescent pigment with high diffractive metal oxides coated glass flakes with a protective layer present on the uppermost metal oxide layer, where the glass flakes exhibit an average thickness of 50-500 nm, comprises metal oxide layer comprising titanium oxide with a rutile content of 80-100 wt.%, and the protective layer comprising silicon dioxide; or metal oxide layer and the protective layer comprising a first protective layer of cerium oxide, cerium oxide hydrate and/or cerium hydroxide, and a second protective layer of silicon dioxide. Weather-resistant pearlescent pigment with high diffractive metal oxides coated glass flakes with a protective layer present on the uppermost metal oxide layer, where the glass flakes exhibit an average thickness of 50-500 nm, comprises metal oxide layer having a refractive index of greater than 1.8 comprising titanium oxide with a rutile content of 80-100 wt.%, and the protective layer (I) comprising silicon dioxide; or metal oxide layer and the protective layer comprising a first protective layer of cerium oxide, cerium oxide hydrate and/or cerium hydroxide, and a second protective layer (II) of silicon dioxide, where the silicon dioxide protective layer is coated with an organic chemical surface coating. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of weather-resistant pearlescent pigment comprising suspending metal oxide coated glass flakes in a liquid phase, applying (I) on the suspended glass flakes, applying the first protective layer and (II) on the suspended glass flakes and applying an organic chemical surface coating on the uppermost protective layer of silicon dioxide; and (2) an article, provided with a coating containing the pearlescent pigment. |
