Summary:The device has a cutter or blade in an ideal break point generator (28) producing an ideal break point on the container (10) so that the gripper (32) can then grip the grip face defined by the ideal break point and separate it off as the cover foil (12) is removed from the container. Heating means (30) are provided to help loosen the cover foil from the container and/or to help produce the ideal break point. The gripper tilts to separate the grip face from the container. Independent claim describes method for removing cover foil from container by producing ideal break point, gripping the grip face and removing it together with cover foil from container.
