A front construction of a motor vehicle includes a front cowl 4 which extends in a transverse direction of a vehicle body 2 and is formed to have a U-shaped cross section as viewed from a side of the vehicle body 2 and an air conditioner 26 in which an opening edge portion 30 of an outside air inlet port 29 through which outside air A introduced thereto through an interior space 10 of the front cowl 4 is introduced into the air conditioner 26 is connected to a rear vertical wall 15 of the front cowl 4. Brittle portions 38, 39 are formed at vertical halfway portions of the opening edge portion 30 of the outside air inlet port 29 and a portion of the rear vertical wall 15 where the opening edge portion 30 is connected thereto, respectively, for promoting the plastic deformation of the front cowl 4 when an impact force is applied to the front cowl 4. Both the brittle portions 38, 39 are positioned at substantially the same height relative to each other.
