Summary: | Method for pre-oxidation of articles made from aluminum alloys or with an aluminum-containing coating comprises heating them above 1,050[deg]C to form a stable alpha-aluminum coating. An oxygen-poor atmosphere is used which at room temperature comprises either: (A) water vapor with a free oxygen content below 100 ppm; (B) a mixture of water vapor and hydrogen with a free oxygen content below that of hydrogen; or (C) a mixture of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide with a free oxygen content below that of carbon monoxide. |
