Summary:The invention relates to an automation system that comprises a multitude of nodes (T1, , T6). These nodes are connected to a common communications channel (5). Each of the nodes has a converter that converts the diagnostic information generated inside the node into a standard format. Each of the nodes automatically makes the diagnostic information assigned thereto available to the communications channel. A diagnostic station (1) is connected to said communications channel and has a browser. The browser is provided for converting the furnished diagnostic information into a uniform display format for the purpose of displaying it on a display. An alternative embodiment of the invention consists of carrying out the conversion of the diagnostic information into the standard format firstly in the diagnostic station.
