Summary:The colorant for dyeing keratin fibers contains oxidation dye precursors and/or direct dyes and a combination of from 2 to 12 percent by weight of at least one long-chain fatty alcohol, from 2 to 12 percent by weight of at least one alkanolamide, from 0.5 to 10 percent by weight of at least one fatty alcohol alkoxylate and from 0.5 to 10 percent by weight of at least one quatemary ammonium compound. The weight ratio of fatty alcohol to alkanolamide is from 0.5:1.5 to 1.5:0.5. A method of making the colorant is described.
