Summary:The starting back up for a motor vehicle internal combustion engine (3) has a mass connected by a clutch (6) and an additional drive (4,5) to the engine crankshaft (2). Rotational kinetic energy is stored in the mass during start up so that during a first compression phase of the engine, the mass is connected. The back up forms a passive starter drive for an integral starter motor. Die Erfindung betrifft eine Hilfsvorrichtung zur Unterstützung des Startvorganges einer Brennkraftmaschine (3). Die Hilfsvorrichtung (7) kann dabei insbesondere eine träge Masse enthalten, welche über eine Überholkupplung (6) und ein Untersetzungsgetriebe (5, 4) an die Kurbelwelle (2) der Brennkraftmaschine (3) gekoppelt ist. In der Hilfsvorrichtung (7) wird während des Startvorganges Rotationsenergie zwischengespeichert, um in kritischen Phasen des Startvorgangs - wie insbesondere der ersten Kompressionsphase der Brennkraftmaschine (3) - zur Verfügung zu stehen. Die Hilfsvorrichtung kann durch einen passiv mitlaufenden Startermotor gebildet werden, welcher einen Integrierten Starter-Generator (1) unterstützt.
