Summary:Silicon manufacture comprises adding, to a SiO solid, an oxide, a hydroxide, a carbonate or a fluoride of an alkali metal, or an oxide, a hydroxide, a carbonate or a fluoride of an alkaline earth metal, or >=2 of these compounds in a total amount of 1/20 to 1000 times that of the SiO solid, and heating to the temperature of the melting point of Si to =2000[deg]C, to produce silicon by a chemical reaction. Silicon is separated and recovered from the reaction by-products.
