Large organic devices and methods of fabricating large organic devices

Large, light-weight organic devices (32) and methods of preparing large, light-weight organic devices (32). Specifically, flexible (20) and rigid (10) light-weight plastics are implemented. The flexible plastic (20) may be disposed from a reel. A metal grid (22) is fabricated on the flexible plastic...

Summary:Large, light-weight organic devices (32) and methods of preparing large, light-weight organic devices (32). Specifically, flexible (20) and rigid (10) light-weight plastics are implemented. The flexible plastic (20) may be disposed from a reel. A metal grid (22) is fabricated on the flexible plastic (20) to provide current conduction over the large area. A transparent oxide layer (24) is provided over the metal grid (22) to form the bottom electrode of the organic device (32). A light emitting or light gathering organic layer (26) is disposed on the transparent oxide layer (24). A second electrode (28) is disposed over the organic layer (26). Electrodes (34) are coupled to the metal grid (22) and the second electrode (28) to provide electrical current to or from the organic layer (26). Depending on the type of materials used for the organic layer (26), the organic device (32) may comprise an area light device or a photovoltaic device.
