The dirt extraction system, for a textile machine, has a suction air flow passing constantly through a tube (12,14,16,18) during a trouble-free operation. The temperature of the tube wall is monitored at two points (20,24), and the sensor signals are compared and evaluated to determine if there is a fault in the working. A heater is at the first measurement point. The tube assembly has sections of brass and a plastics thermal insulation tube section.
