Optical interface for 4-channel opto-electronic transmitter-receiver

An optical head comprises an optical head body(40) having a proximal face(51) and a distal face(53). Eight optical fibers(48) extend through the optical head body(40). Each of the optical fibers(48) has fiber ends(50,54) on the proximal face(51) and the distal face(53). The fiber ends(50) on the pro...

Summary:An optical head comprises an optical head body(40) having a proximal face(51) and a distal face(53). Eight optical fibers(48) extend through the optical head body(40). Each of the optical fibers(48) has fiber ends(50,54) on the proximal face(51) and the distal face(53). The fiber ends(50) on the proximal face(51) are grouped in two fiber end arrays(48a,48b) each comprising four fiber ends(50) evenly spaced from each other. Each of the fiber end arrays(48a,48b) is in optical alignment with a transmitter chip(26) or a receiver chip(28). The fiber ends(54) on the distal face(53) are evenly spaced from each other in a single array of eight fiber ends(54).
