Summary:Fine particulates of titanium oxide having a BET specific surface area of from 3 m /g to 200 m /g are obtained using a vapor phase process of producing titanium oxide by oxidizing titanium tetrachloride with an oxidizing gas at a high temperature, wherein a titanium tetrachloride-containing gas and an oxidizing gas are supplied and reacted in a reaction tube after each gas is preheated to 500 DEG C or more. The fine particulates of titanium oxide exhibit little aggregation and have highly excellent dispersibility.
