Summary: | A mandrel 26 over which a tube 16 of non derivatized cellulose is extruded depends from the extrusion orifice 15. The mandrel 26 has a shaft portion 28 and a sizing portion 30 which is of greater diameter than the orifice 15 and serves to "size" the extruded cellulose tube. The sizing portion 30 has a plurality of orifices 60 which form a diamond pattern on the outer surface of the sizing portion 30. The orifices allow gas bubbles which are evolved during extrusion to pass to the interior of the mandrel 26 to be vented through a conduit (54 in figure 2). An upper band (59 in figure 2) of the sizing portion 30 has no orifices and forms a seal between the tube 16 and the sizing portion 30 to prevent passage of gas therebetween. |
