Summary:A system and method for wireless communication using half speech blocks which results in half the number of coded bits as a full speech block after coding. The half speech block can be created with a lower speech rate mode of an adaptive multi-rate vocoder. The reliability of the first speech frame is somewhat lower; however, this is not expected to significantly impact voice quality. Further, reliability can be compensated for by increasing power some on the less reliable blocks.
