A process for the production of sulfur- and phosphorus-containing silane compounds comprises reaction of a halogen containing silane with phosphorus pentasulfide and a metal sulfide. A process for the production of sulfur- and phosphorus-containing compounds of formula (R n(R O)3-n-Si-Alk-S-)3P=S (1) comprises reaction of a halogen-containing silane of formula R n(R O)3-n-Si-Alk-Hal (2) with phosphorus pentasulfide (P4S10) and a metal sulfide. Alk = 1-10C alkylene; R ,R each = 1-5C alkyl, 5-8C cycloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl or 2-methoxyethyl; Hal = halogen; and n = 0-2.
