Summary:The method involves one subscriber (1) undertaking a master function. A further communications line (7) of star structure has the master subscriber at its centre and connects it directly to the other subscribers (2-6). A start signal is sent to the individual subscribers from the master function subscriber via the communications line and the individual subscribers acknowledge the start signal via the communications line. The master subscriber sends an initialising signal and normal operation of the optical ring line (8) is detected if the master subscriber receives a signal corresp. to a desired signal within a predefined time.
