Summary: | A plastic optical fiber (A) having a core and a cladding portion is connected to a light-receiving element such as a photo-diode (PD) through a connecting structure. The connecting structure such as a light-relay element (52) is interposed between an end face of the plastic optical fiber and a light-receiving face (Rf) of the photo-diode in the same axial direction. The connecting structure has a frusto-conical shape having a cylindrical surface and end faces. The diameter of the structure decreases gradually from the fiber side towards the photo-diode side, so that its fiber-side face has a size corresponding to that of the core portion of the fiber, whilst its photo-diode side face corresponding to that of the light-receiving face. By virtue of this configuration, the connection loss between the plastic optical fiber and the light-receiving element can be minimized. |
