NON-INVASIVE MEASUREMENT OF OPTICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS
The concentration of an optically active compound in a sample is determined by measuring the entire polarisation state of the sample and comparing it with that of a sample having a known concentration of the compound. Summary: | The concentration of an optically active compound in a sample is determined by measuring the entire polarisation state of the sample and comparing it with that of a sample having a known concentration of the compound. The apparatus comprises a source of unpolarised light (10), a device (12) for manipulating its polarisation state, a sample holder (14), a second device (16) for manipulating the polarisation state of light passing through it, a light detector (18), and an analyser (20) which correlates a received signal with the concentration of the optically active compound. Devices (10,12,14,16,18) are optically aligned. |
