Summary:The prosthesis (1) comprises a metal shell-shaped carrier part (2) and a ceramic insert (3) which is mounted in a spherical chamber of the carrier part. The insert is held fast in the carrier part by means of a conical clamping system. The clamp face (6) of the insert runs at an angle to the clamp face (7) of the carrier part. The angle of the insert clamp face to the axis (8) of the prosthesis may be greater than the angle between the carrier part and the clamp face. This means that the insert may have a relatively small contact area (9) which can be varied by altering the angle of contact. The clamp face of the carrier part can be roughened to overcome deviations in the surface of the insert.
