Summary: | An iron comprises a steam chamber cover (14) and a sole plate (12) having a perimeter of the cover e.g. having an outwardly extending flange and located in a channel of the soleplate which extends into the top part of the sole plate with portions of different height of which the higher portion is deformed against the perimeter of the cover for clamping the cover to the soleplate. Also claimed is a method of assembling an iron comprising the above and connecting a steam chamber cover to a soleplate, moving a centre area of the cover towards the soleplate to thereby deform the cover, and causing an auditory sound to be generated from a fracture of the soleplate close to the portion of the soleplate when a bad seal occurs to thereby signal an operator of an occurrence of the bad seal between the soleplate and the cover. |
