Method of making an alloy of tungsten and lanthana

A method of making an alloy of W and La oxide involves sintering an ingot contg. W powder and La hydroxide. The ingot is formed by pressing W and La hydroxide and the hydroxide is formed by heating La oxide in a water saturated atmos. until at least 95% of the oxide is converted to the hydroxide. Pr...

Summary:A method of making an alloy of W and La oxide involves sintering an ingot contg. W powder and La hydroxide. The ingot is formed by pressing W and La hydroxide and the hydroxide is formed by heating La oxide in a water saturated atmos. until at least 95% of the oxide is converted to the hydroxide. Pref. the oxide is heated for 12 hrs at 60[deg]C. The pressed ingot is presintered at 1300[deg]C. prior to sintering, pref. at 1800[deg]C. The alloy contains 0.1-2.0 wt.%, pref. 1.2-1.6 wt.%, La oxide.
