Summary: | A diverter for use in a subterranean well has a body (12) having a lower portion (14) adapted to be coupled to a diverter anchoring structure and an upper portion (16) having a slanted diverting surface (18), the slanted diverting surface (18) being adapted to redirect an object lowered in the borehole and coming into contact therewith into a lateral borehole. The diverter includes a compliant spring member (26) associated with the slanted diverter surface (18), the spring member being resiliently retractable toward the slanted diverter surface to allow the object to traverse the junction and enter the lateral borehole. The diverter (10) is configured to receive a flexible finger of a retrieving tool into a central longitudinal shaft (22) therein to engage and retrieve the diverter (10) without having to orient the retrieving tool. |
