Summary:A first-in first-out memory ("FIFO") that does not need dual-port memories can perform successive simultaneous read and write operations, without contention problems or the need to slow down either the source device or the destination device. Furthermore, the FIFO can use inexpensive commercially available memories to create large capacity FIFOs. A typical FIFO comprises: a control sequencer 201, a write-pointer 203, read-pointer 205, a first and second address generator 211, 213 and an output data driver 231.
