Summary: | A new process for the prepn. of aliphatic carboxylic acids comprises the controlled oxidn. of the corresp. alkanes using an O2 source in the presence of a catalyst, the active phase of which is a heteropoly acid of formula (AaBb)f(CcDdEeOx) delta <-> (I). In (I): A = H<+>, alkali metal ion, or NH4<+>; B = VO<2+>, VO<3+>, an alkaline earth ion, or a metal from gps. VIIA, VIII, IB, IVB or VB; C = Mo and/or W; D = P, As, Sb, Si, Ge and/or B; E = V (possibly in combination with a metal from gps. VA, VIIA or VIII) or Cr; delta = a + alpha b, alpha being dependent on the charge of ion B, equal to 2.3 or 4; c = 5-(20-e) inclusive; d = 1-5 inclusive; and e = 1-9 inclusive. Also claimed is a catalyst compsn. contg. TiO2 as support and a heteropolyacid or polyoxo-metallate (both designated HPA) defined as above. |
